Blog and Website Optimization

Steve Mertz-SEO speaker is headed to Las Vegas, Nevada on September, 20, 2008. It will be my pleasure to spend the day with National Speakers Association/Las Vegas Chapter. They have asked me to speak on how to increase your presence in a Google search and most importantly-how to turn visitors into customers!
I’ll spend some time sharing website optimization tips and website strategies. My expertise is not coding websites but rather how to write for the search engines and potential clients as well. My favorite weapons of choice are blogs. We will talk about how blogs support your online marketing efforts and why I’m such a fan of WordPress.
Social media will also be a topic of discussion. This is not really new news but for some it is and there is a right way to use social media to drive potential customers to your website or blogs.
You do not have to be a member of the Las Vegas Chapter to attend the meeting-so if you are a small business owner and want to learn how to bring your marketing program online…here’s your chance!

Is Inflation a Problem?

It was good to see Thomas Hoenig, President of the Federal reserve Bank of Kansas City, in our state of Colorado. He went on a folksy tour of small businesses and ended up at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Durango on Tuesday.
Rocky Mountain Chocolates makes great candy and Bryan Merryman, the CFO of the company told Hoenig:

“Commodities across the board have pressured us”. “There are a lot of pressures in our system that we haven’t seen before”.

It’s reassuring to see that the feds have recently discovered that they need to start raising interest rates. I hope Hoenig went to the grocery store and gas station with Merryman just to confirm his suspicions ;)

J.K. Rowling at Harvard University

J.K. Rowling extolled the crucial importance of imagination during a speech Thursday at Harvard University’s spring commencement, saying, “We do not need magic to transform our world.”

The Harry Potter author also stressed the benefit of failure, recalling the humiliations of her time in poverty before her career took off with her string of novels about a bespectacled boy wizard.

Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation,” Rowling said. “In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity; it is the power that enables us to empathize with humans whose experiences we have never shared.”

Great advice for all small business owners and would be entrepreneurs!
